The Starter Kit
Well, you realized that your wardrobe demands an upgrade; but, where do you begin? Back in the day, I would see something that I liked in the store and would carry it home. Then, I would center my wardrobe around it and wear it much too frequently. In addition, I lacked any sense of appreciation for how to shop and compile a well rounded set of clothes. In fact, my shopping experience consisted of this:
1. I need a shirt.
2. Go to the nearest clothing store.
3. Find the shirt section.
4. Find the best shirt in ten minutes.
5. Pay and get out of there.
Maybe, you can relate. Shopping may totally disinterest you and a smile may be stretching across your face as you take pride in your focused hunt or limited strategy. That’s right – strategy. In football, a good coach never pulls the players in for a huddle, looks them in the eyes and then says, “Just get the ball into the end zone. I don’t care how you do it, just do it quickly.” Good coaches employ strategy and well-organized plays. The players have practiced many times and with strategy they win games.
In the same way, your shopping as well as personal presentation requires strategy. So, let’s talk about some building blocks – a starter kit. We’ll dive into more advanced outfits in the future. To initiate your fashion immergence, think classic. Here are ten important items to purchase now:
1. A classic white dress shirt.
2. Grey wool slacks.
3. A black and a brown belt.
4. A navy blue blazer (get it tailored and stay away from brass buttons).
5. A black pair of oxford shoes.
6. A pair of straight leg dark blue jeans (not distressed and no holes).
7. A dozen pairs of various colored socks (mainly black, blue, and tan).
8. A nice grey sweater.
9. V-neck undershirts.
10. A dark grey suit.
Have your list when you start the hunt. Next, make a list of potential stores and what you may find there. When you arrive, look for good quality clothes that will not fall apart. Also, make sure to buy the correct size. If you should wear a medium, don’t buy a large. With the basics in place, you will have a much easier time looking great. Happy hunting!
What a great and helpful blog you have here! No nonsense, practical advice about fashion basics without all the fuss about passing catwalk trends. Now I just need the female equivalent for myself. 🙂

Awesome Jeremy!!
Thanks.
This is a great article, as my husband is a khaki shorts and t-shirt (whatever’s clean) type of guy. I would like to help him be a little more fashionable.
Thanks for stopping by my blog too!
