Merry Christmas! The polished tones of Nat King Cole warm my cup of java as I stare at the lit tree. This season fills my heart with joy. I love sharing the memories, the food, the celebration with my friends and family. And, I thank God for salvation given through Jesus Christ. I have enjoyed the ongoing discussion we have shared this year about men’s fashion. Thank you for your comments, your likes, and for simply reading my regular posts.
This time gets me thinking about what’s important in life – about what gives us worth – about why we do what we do. Let me tell you there’s more to life than looking good. Don’t get me wrong. You should look great and take care of your exterior presentation, but don’t neglect your heart – your soul – your spirit. Truly, you can give the appearance of holding it all together, of success, of joy, even fame and fortune; however, it will mean nothing without inner peace.
Think about the unhappy famous people perpetually circulating through the news in recent years. People like Lindsay Lohan, Robert Downey Jr, Britney Spears, and Michael Jackson are just a few people on this list. Part of this may have to do with all the pressure and obsession directed at them from the media and public at large. On the other hand, a good internal foundation allows a “personal house” to withstand the pressure. These recurring examples tell us that success, fame, fortune, excellent clothes, or possessions can never give us ultimate peace or happiness.
I wish to convey several things:
1. You must be at peace within – This cannot come from buying more things. It cannot come from achieving more success. It cannot come from other people. It cannot come from great fashion. In fact, you will better appreciate and enjoy everything if your soul is at peace. Personally, I find my peace through Jesus Christ. He gives me a reason to live. Christmas reminds of it every year.
2. Be happy and content with who you are – Don’t ever try to be someone other than you – when you dress, when you speak, when you interact with the world. This blog exists to help you enhance a presentation of YOU, not to change you into a different person. And I know, sometimes finding yourself can prove to be one of the most challenging tasks of life.
I realize many of you agree life is more than appearance. I see it all the time in your responses to past articles such as People do judge a book by its cover. In fact, we all know deep down what’s important. It just takes a special time like Christmas to bring us back to center.
Merry Christmas and stay tuned for more about men’s fashion in 2013. I have some great articles floating around in my head for next year.
