2013 fashion resolutions
Welcome to 2013. The start of the New Year compels us all to set some goals. Statistics show most people will not create a resolution and less than half of the goal setters will not achieve their goal. This passion followed by fading commitment sits on full display every January at most gyms in your area. Notice the parking lot as you drive by a few in the coming months. This does not have to be you!
First, I recommend you do set at least one goal for 2013. If you have no goal at all, you have zero chance of achieving it, right? Second, make your resolution simple and achievable. So, a goal to completely replace your entire wardrobe would probably not work. To jump start your thinking, I have created some suggestions. If you have nothing in mind, please take one of these achievable fashion resolutions. You will discover yourself better off at the end of the year.
Repeat after me:
1. In 2013, I will try on most clothes before buying them. No grab-and-go purchases. This leads to buying too large or too small clothes. Even if you know your size, each brand’s fit can vary enough to make a difference. I say “most” because you can learn the fit of a particular brand enough to grab-and-go on a future purchase.
2. In 2013, I will not leave the house wearing wrinkled clothes. All you have to do is iron or steam your clothes. This one thing will consistently keep you out of the sloppy club. Wrinkled clothes bring even an expensive outfit down.
3. In 2013, I will polish my shoes. Scuffed and marked up shoes look terrible. This cousin of wrinkled clothes also ups your sloppy meter. Depending on use, a polish once a month will be sufficient. For more on this, read the chapter Your boss pays attention to your feet in my book Fashion for the average man.
4. In 2013, I will take control of my smells. That means fresh breath and no body odors. Your smell should not announce your entry into a room. For more on this, read the chapter What’s that smell? in my book Fashion for the average man.
Lastly, write down your goal and post it in the place you need to see it. So, if you plan to adopt resolution 3, tape a sign with it next to your shoes. In fact, print out a picture of a really nice pair of perfectly polished shoes and tape that as well. Further, if none of these catch your fancy, consider the goals I listed in 2012 fashion resolutions.
Overall, I urge you to do anything to improve yourself this year. Happy New Year!

Thanks for all your fashion ideas. Since following your blog it’s really opened my eyes to how many mistakes I was making. I now can appreciate the fit of a nice suit and the buying tips have saved me some cash to boot. Happy New Year and keep up the good work.
Your comment makes it all worth it. Thanks.
Happy New Year to you, first of all … I think this is tips that should apply to us, ladies too.
Far too many of us ladies, don’t look after their boots, especially our boots. Shinny shoes do the man, so true – when I see a handsome man – I always look at his shoes and if they are not polished, he has lost his good looks with me.
You are right. Some principles are universal. Happy New Year.
I would say the country with most shinning shoes are Germany – the treat the shoes as they treat their cars.
Well polished. Thanks for coming back to me!

How flattering. Comments like this get me inspired to write. Thanks.
Wrinkles! I work with some folks that need to read this. My grandmother always said you can tell a lot about a person by their shoes and fingernails.
You have a wise grandmother.
